Inventor italiano. Considerado como uno de los pioneros de la comunicación telefónica por vía eléctrica. Vivió en La Habana entre los años de 1834 y 1850, donde realizó sus primeros experimentos telefónicos.

Since 1961, when being still a student, she took part in Fidel Plan as a Social Sciences professor at “Ciro Redondo” High School. She has been deeply involved in teaching, mostly at Havana University (UH), where she has been Head of the Department of Ancient History and the Department of History of Pre-Capitalist Developments, Assistant Principal and Head of the Department of History of America, Head of the Department of History of Cuba of the Faculty of Philosophy and History, Member of the Scientific Board in said Faculty and of the Cuban National Archive, Permanent Researcher and Head of the Department of Colonial History of the Institute of History. She has been an Advising Member of the Africa Center, Member of the Scientific Board of Fernando Ortíz Foundation, Vice President of the National Examining Board for Scientific Degrees at the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), Permanent Academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Member of ADHILAC (Association of Latin American and Caribbean History) and Member of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC).


She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Havana University, of the Editorial Board of the Bulletin of the Cuban National Archive, of the Advising Board of the Ciencias Sociales Publishing House, of the Advising Board of the journal American Debates, and member of UNHIC (National Union of Cuban Historians.

  • Research on the Structure and Dynamics of the Dominant Class in Cuba 1878 - 1898 (1987 - 1989).

  • Research on the Slave Market in Cuba 1790 - 1886 (1989 - 1992).

  • Study of the Cuban 1880 - 1898 (1992 - 1993).

  • The Clusters of Heritage Wealth in Havana (1992 - 1993).

  • Study of the Cuban Society. Lobbies in the Island, their Makeup and Way of Behaving (1993 - 1995).

  • From Tradition to Modernity: the Cuban Society between Centuries (1996 - 1998).

  • Study of the Popular Strata in Cuba (1880 - 1920): Spanish, Black and Mixed-Blooded Immigrants (1999).
