1989 | Lung surfactant    for the treatment of the respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn

Summary: In premature children, the lung has not developed as to assure the synthesis of enough lung surfactant, a substance that allows the distension of this organ and therefore, gaseous exchange. In the last decade, it was demonstrated that the substitution of this substance, obtained from other sources, restored lung function, made disappear the radiological image of hyaline membrane and increased the survival of premature babies. Capitalist developed countries have concluded clinical studies and have begun the commercialization of this pharmaco, which price is of a thousand dollars every dose. In our country, it has been possible obtaining this product from bovine lung. It has been proven in different models, and preclinical and clinical trials have successfully concluded. It is expected its use to adult's breathing syndromes, as well as its exportation.
