Summary: It was obtained since 1981, in a brief interval of time (60 days), human Alpha-Leukocyte Interferon, with appropriate quality for clinical use. The preparation of Leukocytic Interferon has been subjected to characterization studies, as for its identification as Interferon Alpha and biological properties as antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulator agent in several systems, such as cultivation cells, transplanted tumors in bare mice and healthy human or with different diseases. It was organized in this period the industrial production, supported by a scientific-technological insurance device, composed -among others- by: a system to determine interferon's antiviral biological activity includes the production of cells for measurement, laboratory standard, automated reading system and controls of quality of the product. In this way, the following pharmaceutical forms have been produced, in a stable way and in enough quantity: injection, collyrium, cream, nasal spray and jelly. The lines of rutin production include inductor Sendai virus and solutions and cultivation means for the development of applications in the country and for exportation. The production volume reached and which is at the disposal of the diverse specialized services of the national system of medical assistance, have made possible its therapeutic and experimental use in many pathologies, with an extension that overcomes which has been reported in other countries of the world.PERFORMERS: Center of Biological Research, Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Blood Banks, Company "Reynaldo Gutiérrez" and other dependences of the Medical-Pharmaceutical Industry; Centers of the Assistance Net of MINSAP.
