Summary: The Ultramicroanalytic System (SUMA) is an analyzer of high sensibility and automation that rapidly allows achieving security and saving of reagents, and the diagnosis of several diseases. From 1985 to 1990, it was begun and developed the production of the equiment that integrates this system: automated reader (SUMA 121, SUMA 221, SUMA 321 models); HEDGEHOG 101 programmable multipipette and MA 101programmable automatic washer. The development of SUMA has allowed the consolidation of the net of diagnostic laboratories in the country; this system is used in many health programs. A total of 17 diagnostic techniques has been incorporate to the system: AIDS (recombinant HIV); Hepatitis B; Alpha fetoprotein (defects of the neural tube); Thyrostimulating Hormone (congenital hypothyroidism); Immunoglobuline E (allergic predisposition); Leprosy; Chagas; Anti-tetanus antibodies; Meningococcus; Toxoplasmosis; Cytomegalovirus; Herpes; Rubella; Carcinoembryonic Antigen in serum; Carcinoembryonic antigen and hidden blood in feces; Apolipoprotein B; and T4 antitumoral antigen. Diverse institutions have cooperated in these incorporatations.
