Summary: This book constitutes one of the first texts on this subject published in the world. In Cuba, where more than 65% of the emerged territory is constituted by carbonated rocks, on which we find the 90% of hydric resources and through where most of the rivers flow, it is evident the importance and application of these results. It is evident the theoretical-methodological contribution of the first part, which exposes the physicochemical parameters of carbonates’ dissolution, and the complex climatic, biological, biochemical, geological- tectonic, physico-geographic and hydrodynamic processes that determine the chemical composition and dynamics of karstic waters’ chemical evolution. The second part, "Hydrochemistry of Karst in extreme climates ", constitutes the practical application of the theoretical concepts exposed in the first one, starting from systematic studies carried out by the authors in experimental areas that represent Polar and Tropical climates and their comparison. In the light of a kinetic approach and of the influence of the processes previously exposed, it is demonstrated that, regardless of Henry’Law, biochemical factors (higher C02 availability, due to organic matter’s decomposition in tropical soils), as well as more quantity and better year-on-year precipitation’s distribution in tropical climates, make karstic denudation process more intense in tropical latitudes than in mild and polar climates.
