Summary: From 1973 to 1994, 629 children with ALL were treated with seven therapeutic shemes of the Latin American Group ot Treatment of Malignant Hemopathies, (GLATHEM), which was created in Cuba in 1973. The percentage of complete remissions obtained was of 94%. Patients were grouped in three periods in order to carry out the statistical analysis: 1973-1981, in which 254 children were treated; 1982-1986 (176 children) and 1987-1994 (166 children). Patients were classified in prognostic groups: low risk, between 2-8 years old and less than 10 x 109/l leukocytes (198 sick persons); high risk, with more than 50 x 10 /1 leukocytes regardless of the age (110), and the rest, intermediate risk (317). It is important to highlight that in the last period, with BFM type protocols and intravenous methotrexate in heavy doses, it was achieved a 66% of survival after 60 months. Nowadays, 270 patients are without treatment and their quality of life is excelent. Eight women and three men have got married and have healthy children.
