Summary: This work presents the result of the application in Cuba, by the National Program of Corn Genetic Improvement, of the new procedure called "Pedigree Improvement ", through which in a short period of time (2-3 years) and to a low cost, there were obtained or generated two new double hybrids of yellow grain corn (Zea m: avs L.): Cuba T-4 and Cuba T-31, of good adaptation, yield and stability in Central America and the Caribbean. These hybrids have genetic characteristics to increase the production and productivity of corn cultivation in more than the 10% in the region’s cultivated area, under diverse conditions of contrasting environments, with marked environmental variability of climate, humidity, type of soil, agronomic handling of the cultivation and other stresses of biotic character. Cuba is the first and only country of this region where there are programs to improve tropical corn, and where it is applied this new procedure to improve corn genetically, which is known since 1985. The results obtained from the uniform yield trials in Cuba and from those of yellow grain corn hybrids of the PCCMCA in 1992 and 1993, which took place in Nicaragua and Panama in 12 and 13 towns, respectively, showed that the hybrids CUBA T-31 (4,033 t/HA) and 0,141 AMMI (AMMI Mathematical Model or Main Additive Effects and Multiplicative Interaction) or BIPLOT, produced 6% more than HA 46 regional control (3,785 t/ha) and 0,593 AMMI; CUBA T-4 (4,20 t/ha) and 0,044 AMMT superior in 10% to HA 46 regional control that produced (3,83 t/ha) and 0,098 AMMI, which demonstrates that these double Cuban hybrids classified among the most outstanding generated by national programs and private companies of PRM environment.
