Summary:

There were analyzed, with the Direction of Fishing Regulations, the recommendations of regulatory measures for lobster fishing in 1998, and it was concluded that the close season extension from 3.5 to 4 months is the best variant for the current situation of this resource. As a result, there were captured in 1998, 362 ton during this season, which represents a decrease on 59.0% and a better protection of this species. The abundance Index during the open season, ascended to 6.2% compared to1997.

The development of a bioeconomic model allowed predicting the captures by Associations for 1999 considering different uncertainty levels. The total capture can oscillate from 8136 to 10234 ton, which corresponds to fishing reality for the most recent period.

There was a participation with the FAQ and countries from the area, in an analysis on the state of the species exploitation to regional scale. It was reached the conclusion that this resource is fully exploited in most of the countries.

Some works were carried out on board "Ulises" BIC in the area of Pinar del Río, and recommendations were formulated in order to improve fishing organization, the conditions of breeding areas and the juvenile's refuges.

There were studied the relationships between the shedding and reproduction processes, useful for the export of live lobster. It was recommended as best season the months from October to January, where the shedding process percent is minimum, the shell is hard and meat consistency is better.
