This thesis is the result of several years of research on the history of ideas in Cuba, at the end of the 18th and beginning of 21st century. Although the work is focused on José Agustín Caballero's labor, he dedicates the first whole chapter to assess the influence that illustration had in Creole society from latish 18th century, and in particular, in philosophy teaching in Cuba. In the second chapter, he also provides a very interesting historical synopsis of San Carlos Seminar.
The work's nucleus is the rigorous analysis of social projection and José Agustín Caballero's thought, not only from his work in the Seminar and his Elective Philosophy, but also from all his publications; that is to say, from his articles, speeches and reports. We can affirm that Dr. Buch makes an integral analysis of Caballero's work and this is evidenced in the active and passive thorough bibliography that she has used.
This work is an important contribution to the existent bibliography on the history of ideas in Cuba, and its creativity lies in the fact that it is an integral study of Caballero's work. It has internal coherence and it is written in a pleasant style. For this reason, it can be used as a consultation book for professors and students of the History of Ideas in Cuba.
