The book, published in 1998, studies Cuban economic reality in the nineties. For this purpose, the economy is researched starting from a methodological proposal: the systemic equilibrium approach, which makes possible to show it in its intimate relationship with the rest of social spheres and, from it, to deepen in the essential characteristics that define and determine the current reconstruction process of the country's economic configuration and to offer a global and integral vision of this process.
It is highlighted in the conclusions that the strategic position taken by the Revolution is not, consequently, meant to go towards capitalism. The objective is facing an extremely difficult, contradictory and complex process, without transforming the essence of the social project and without losing stability; adapting the economic bases that sustain the internal balance of Cuban society to the demands that are derived from the socialist ideal of its project and from the requirements of the complex and uncertain world economic life.
The offered vision is creative, when approaching the study of Cuban economic reality from the systemic equilibrium approach, which constitutes a renovating element from the conceptual point of view. It is shown great objectivity and scientific rigor, based on the mastery use of Political Economy method, and at the same time, a clear political commitment. There is support in a wide and updated bibliography and factual information, correctly used and mentioned, as well as in prestigious specialists of economic practice.
The coherent structure and the writing, make the work perfectly comprehensible for everyone, without losing rigor or quality. It has an undeniable use for economists, as well as for specialists in other social sciences' disciplines. It fulfills an important task: to propitiate the reflection on the current economic reality, to contribute to a well structured debate and to stimulate the corresponding changes in professionals and leaders' ideas. The book published has not only been recommended for its diffusion in the Schools of the Political Party, but also in Universities as a text. Its knowledge contribution and scientific impact is endorsed by a group of prestigious specialists and by the Scientific Council of the Higher School of the Communist Party of Cuba "Ñ‘ico López", of the National Institute for Economic Research (INIE) and Faculty of Economy of the University of Havana (UH).
