Main author: Rosalina de la Caridad Berazaín Iturralde.

Cuban Flora has an estimate of 7 649 species that belong to 239 families of vascular plants and approximately 50% of endemism, all which bases the importance and interest that it represents for science, economy and education.

Cuban Flora consists of five volumes and a supplement published in 1946, 1951, 1953, 1957, 1962 and 1969, embracing 181 families of Spermatophita; for this reason it was considered a magnific work on a level with the knowledge of its time, which nowadays is insufficient, because the diagnoses are very plain, the illustrations limited in quality and quantity, and they lack geographical distribution schemes for species.

There are presented the published results of nine families of vascular plants of the work "Cuban Republic's Flora" (Araceae, Aristolochiaceae, Bombacaceae, Clethraceae, Droceraceae, Eremolepidaceae, Ericaceae, Linaceae and Loranthaceae) that embrace 30 genuses, 78 species, 2 subspecieses and 6 varieties, of which 8 species, 2 subspecieses and 1 variety are reported new for science, as culmination of an entire stage of professional preparation, collection of copies in nature, consultation of original material (types) in European and North American herbaria of recognized international prestige, bibliographical consultation and application of current techniques for the elucidation of the taxonomic problem, as well as elaboration techniques of the writing treatment model to guarantee the homogeneity of the whole work, which is aimed at presenting the great diversity of vegetal species of vascular plants in Cuba as a scientific work of modern flora, for its use and application in science, the protection of vegetal biodiversity, economy and specialized teaching.

The materialization of such an effort with the appearance of the first three fascicles, constitutes an event of scientific relevance in the country and abroad, to which publications of scientific and editorial quality contribute decisively. These were published by Fontqueria and Koeltz Scientific Books, German and Spanish publishing Houses specialized in Botany, which publish original materials in this science.

These works are also endorsed by 5 publications in foreign magazines, 21 publications in national magazines, 4 reports in international events, 6 reports in national events, 3 master's degree theses and 3 diploma theses.
