1999 | Development and kinetic study of compounds and polymeric biomaterials with the help of biostable and biodegradable monomers

The work provides new results to knowledge, since:

  • It clarifies some kinetic aspects of the radical homopolymerization of furfural acrylate and methacrylate;
  • It studies the copolymerization process of acrylfuranic monomers with biodegradables;
  • It incorporates other bicompatible structures to polymeric matrixes;
  • It optimizes the monomeric composition and the initiation system of some formulations of insulators and photocured seals and their polymerization kinetics;
  • It carries out theoretical studies of mathematical modeling that allow clarifying the experimental changes that were observed.

It is possible to optimize formulations of odontologic and orthopedic products of wide use in modern medicine that are very expensive worldwide, which limits their use in the Third World countries.

In this work, there have been carried out some researches aimed at developing several biocompatible systems based on hydroxyapatite, using different biocompatibility systems (biostable, biodegradable) as monomeric matrix.

It is developed a new type of alpha-phosphate tricalcic cement of "double setting" with superior properties than conventional ones.

The work is included in 17 publications from 1996 to 1999: 5 accepted to be published in CENIC magazine and other 12 in Journal of Polymer Science (2), Polymer (2); J. Biomater. Sci. Polimer Edn (1); Magazines of Modern Plastics (2); Computational and Theoretical Polymer Science (1); Polimer International (1); Bone (1); CENIC Chemical Sciences Magazine (2). 2 of these articles were chosen the two best articles in CENIC Chemical magazine, and other two were chosen the best publications at center level in the corresponding years.

3 doctorate subjects are entailed and 4 master's degrees have been defended in this work.
