Summary:

There are carried out in this work important studies on natural Clinoptilolite contained in zeolitic rock from Tasajeras deposit, and the most outstanding are:

  • Modifications to the standard NRIB1152 that establishes some characteristics that zeolitic matter should possess, which is destined to pharmaceutical industry, including chemical analysis of majority elements and microbiological analysis to demonstrate the product's sterility;
  • Studies of structural refinement using methods applied for the first time in Cuban natural zeolites, providing the identification of a new phase, non-reported in zeolitic Cuban minerals;
  • Studies that allow determining the interatomic distances. It was evaluated the influence of absorbed water’s content and the nature of the cation exchanged in the x rays diffraction pattern, being elaborated a computerized atlas of the patterns for the different exchanged forms;
  • Chemical and physical theoretical-computational studies;
  • Studies of adsorption processes of NH3 and HzO molecules in those zeolites' cavities, being confirmed mechanisms, theoretical-computational simulation of IR spectra of the exchanged NZ forms and other correlation studies, starting from the transmittances' variations in the characteristic vibrational ways;
  • There are carried out studies of Dielectric Spectrometry, ionic exchange, selective reactivity, microbiology, Enterex medication's stability.

The knowledge achieved allowed designing and developing a mineral's benefit procedure and new uses of the purified zeolitic phase, such as: active principle of ENTEREX medications (registered and in production), NEUTACID (in registration phase) and other active principles for the development of new medications.

The result solves the technological problems of Cuban zeolitic raw material's quality from Tasajera deposit and it has allowed transforming it into a high quality product.

ENTEREX constitutes the most important industrial production of this work. It has been registered as a medication since 1995, being carried out the industrial climbing (1996-1997), and it was carried out the production of 2.6 ton in 1998.

The results have been broadly disclosed: eleven publications in international magazines, one in 1994, two in1996, three in 1997, five in 1998, two in Zeolite of Elsevier; three in Microporous and Mesoporous Materials of Elsevier, one in Journal of Physical Chemistry, two in Latin Folia Chemica Theoret, one in Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, and seven works accepted to be published; 23 works presented in scientific events; 12 conferences given abroad; 29 international and 40 national events; it integrates 3 doctoral theses, 5 master's degrees, 10 diploma works , 3 prizes to projects, a mention of the X National Forum of Science and Technique and an outstanding participation in Thematic Nets and Projects of the V Subprogram Catalysis and Adsorbents of the CYTED.
