The aberrant glycosylation is one of the distinctive characteristics of malignant transformation, and it seems to be closely related to the changes of social behaviour in the tumoral cell.
Also, there has been evidence in the last years of glycopeptides’ and glycolipids’ recognition by T cells. This has renewed the interest on these antigens. On the other hand, there are more and more regulator restrictions to the biopharmacos, and obtaining biomolecules from mammals implies serious regulator problems.
The possibility of chemical and/or enzymatic systhesis of complex oligosaccharides, as well as their chemical conjugation to lipids and proteins, is a leading technological solution to the production of these biomolecules for a therapeutic use.
This work gathers 3 doctorate thesis and covers 10 years of experimentation. It is backed by 12 international publications in prestigious magazines such as Carbohydrate Research, J. Carbohydrate Chemistry and Glycoconjugate Journal. From these publications, 1 is in edition process, 1 was published in 1999, 6 correspond to 1998 and 2 to correspond to 1997.
