Furanic resins are widely used in advanced metal foundry companies, because they allow obtaining pieces of more quality than the traditional systems, without presenting the high characteristic toxicity of other types of alternative resins.

Its quick aging is a characteristic of furanic resins, because they expire after six months of having been produced. It makes the use of imported furanic resins difficult, since they spend more than half of their useful life in the transfer from the origin country to the national user company. Therefore, it is important that the country is in condition to produce these resins with all the necessary quality, at competitive prices and just in time. The result obtained by the Cuban Research Institute of Sugar Cane Derivatives (ICIDCA) fulfills all these requirements.

Although the main component used in its production is still imported: furfurilic alcohol, it is very important to mention that this component could be locally produced from sugar cane bagasse in the immediate future.

The quality of furanic resins from the Cuban Research Institute of Sugar Cane Derivatives (ICIDCA) has been demonstrated beyond all doubt in many laboratory and field tests, having the corresponding references. These products are commercially sold to a group of stable national clients, under a properly registered mark. The exact production in time and the specialized consultantship that the Cuban Research Institute of Sugar Cane Derivatives (ICIDCA) offers to its clients, has reduced to the minimum the losses due to aging and inadequate use of furanic resins, which has stimulated even more their use.

The control of the production technology achieved by Cuban specialists has allowed developing four types of resins so far, with different nitrogen contents, which allows embracing all the needs of the production of molten iron, steel and diverse non-ferrous alloy pieces.

The research carried out by the Cuban Research Institute of Sugar Cane Derivatives (ICIDCA) demonstrated that the production procedures of furanic resins, just the way they are reflected in a group of patents from industrially developed countries, from Poland to Japan, don't generally lead to good practical results, reason why the development of own technologies was necessary, which are already gathered in three national patents already granted.

The most important results of the scientific researches carried out by the authors were published in two articles of ICIDCA magazine; the authors also published a monograph on this subject.

This work has covered a complete cycle, as can be seen, from the study of the state of the art going through applied research until the production in pilot plant, and the successful introduction of products in the market, with satisfied clients.
