Main author: Enrique Navarrete Pérez, Orestes Treto Cárdenas y José Antonio Rodríguez.
Summary:

During the last 15 years, the authors have been developing methods and procedures for the organization of maintenance activities, based on the most modern reliability, maintenance knowledge and other similar techniques, adapted to current Cuban companies' conditions. As a result, it has been created an own system of maintenance administration, called GMAC.

It is a very important aspect of this work that the same authors developed a high-level original software, which allows managing in an integrated and efficient way the important volume of information and algorithms involved in the modern processes of maintenance organization. In its current version, called MACWIN, this software advantageously competes with all the imported softwares, which were practically replaced in the national market.

Remarkable successes have been reached in more than 70 Cuban companies, after GMAC was adopted as unique maintenance administration system. Some of these companies are the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) , Finlay Institute , Surgical Clinical Hospital "Hermanos Ameijeiras", industries like Pedro Soto Alba and Ñ‘ico López, and tourist facilities like National and Golden Tulip Hotels.

Knowledge and abilities on modern maintenance administration techniques have been transfered to more than 450 professionals of 150 companies of the country, in graduate degree courses, training in situ and even in a Maintenance master's degree.

The companies that have introduced GMAC, have achieved important reductions in the damage indexes, and a higher performance of maintenance labor force. Also, remarkable growths have been quantified in the technical readiness of this equipment, reduction of spare part inventories and paper savings, because more than the 75% all the maintenance administration tasks are carried out directly by computer. An effect of great reach has been the integration of complete and up-to-date information on the technical, economic and administrative management of maintenance to companies' computer net.

The Recognition of the Council of State granted in 1997 is one of the seven important national prizes that this work has received in ten years, considering MACWIN among the three software systems with higher application and generalization possibilities in our country.

A part of these scientific researches has been published in a group of monographs and articles of national magazines, to which user manuals of the developed computer systems are added.

This is an important penetration of our researchers in a key tendency of modern technology, and it constitutes an example of what Cuban technical sciences can achieve, in the practical solution of significant national problems.
