Summary:

The EGF is a well-known cicatrizing and regenerator agent. However, its cytoprotective effect has been limitedly studied. In this work it was demonstrated, for the first time, live in animals, the favorable effect of EGF parenteral administration in 5 different aspects:

  • Neuro-restoring and neuro-protective effect of peripheral injured nerves,
  • Hepato-protective effect facing intoxication with a hepatotoxine ( CCl4),
  • Nephro-protective effect facing the episode ischemia / reperfusion,
  • EGF reduces the multiple damage of organs caused by the thioacetamide agent,
  • EGF prevents intestinal, vascular and renal lesion and stimulates survival of severely burnt animals.

These positive results from the previously mentioned experiments have justified the researches' beginning in order to obtain an injectable preparation for human use. For the first time, the protection mechanisms are demonstrated in the signal aspects. The theoretical and experimental bases have been settled down for the beginning of clinical tests in Cuba, while there is a test in progress on necrotizing enterocolitis in neonates in England.

It has 9 publications in national and foreign magazines about different aspects on this subject.

For its contribution to knowledge, its impact, its topic's novelty and the professional rigor with which it has been carried out, I consider that this work is worthy of receiving the Annual Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC).
