Summary:

This book, published by "Félix Varela" Publishing House of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) in 1999, presents from the theoretical point of view, a vision of science and technology, understood as social processes, that is to say, intimately linked to the political, economic and cultural values.

It is the result of more than 15 years of research and teaching, and it is been used as bibliography in Sciences, Technology and Society Master's degree, in its version in magnetic aids, since these courses began in 1997. It has also been used as bibliography for the minimum exams in Social Problems of Science, as well as in the pre-degree of natural and exact sciences degree courses and in the subject of Social Problems of Science and Technology of all degrees.

The author supports that scientific education cannot lean on stereotyped versions of science and it demonstrates how Marx, and the best of tradition that follows his thought, are indissolubly linked to the social approach of science. Certainly, it is an important contribution to Cuban thought on science and technology. For the author's experience as university professor, he is able to keep the scientific thoroughness in his exposition, at the same time that uses a simple and pleasant language. The use of this result is already endorsed by university institutions of Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Holguín and Havana City, which have found in this book an important bibliographical support for their work.
