

This book, published in Mexico, is the result of a project that received a prize from the Union of Latin American Universities and it was mention as Best Published Book in the University of Havana (UH) during the research balance of 1999.
It collects important information that processes and make this material an object of binding consultation for subjects related to higher education in the Caribbean and elements identified with the regional integration of this area.
This work describes, with a very updated approach, the Caribbean university system starting from institutional sources of income to cover operation expenses of public and private universities; training, work conditions and proportion of students and professors, and the existent collaboration possibilities among the diverse countries in the Caribbean area to create an integrated educational program is one of the recommendations.
The authors point out the need to take into account area's multilinguism as a crucial point to help making university exchange viable, regarding this last aspect. Also, they explore pedagogic innovations, such as distance learning, to extend the options of Caribbean students from the new millennium. It is a significant contribution for education in the Caribbean. This book also has many annexes that enrich visually the analysis carried out.
