Summary:

These studies, for their national character, demand a great organization and harmonization capacity, even more if one keeps in mind that it took 7 years of massive use of this vaccine in our country. The obtained results, on the other hand, are an indispensable complement for the integral development of acceptability carried out by the WHO and the multiple applications of Physician Sanitarian register accomplished in the whole world. It provides valuable assessment results on the Heberbiovac HB vaccine that allows demonstrating: the security of this vaccine on children under one year old; that 96.8% of Cuban children from 1 to 5 years of age are protected against Hepatitis B; that in 96% of the studied children, who have very high infection risk for having infested mothers, it has been avoided to catch the disease.

They allow counting on the indispensable results for the Sanitary Medical Registration and for the World Health Organization, as a part of the acceptability process to which this vaccine has been subjected for its commercialization in the whole world.

Certainly, its professional rigor is notable not only in a small group of investigators, but also in the great amount of specialists involved in these studies along the country, which is meritorious.

To a national and regional scale, these are studies with novelty in their organization, planning and conduction, and it should also be taken into account that their execution is a novel fact, counting on the base of the whole existent Cuban National Health System.

The suggested work includes two presentations in international events, (Biotechnology - Havana 99) and three publications in the magazines Advances in Modern Biotechnology, Medical Applications of Biotechnology, all of them in 1999.
