Summary:

There was developed a deep epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic study of this disease from 1993 to 1997, achieving to estimate the frequency of promyelocytic leukemia in function of the proportion of acute leukemias (8.8%) and acute myeloids (15.3%), to introduce the use of “all – trans” retinoid acid in Cuba in the treatment of that disease. The molecular studies are made to confirm the diagnosis of translocation between the chimeric genes pml and rar a in the chromosomes 15 and 17 respectively, first through Southern Blot techniqhes and later on RT - CRP, finding a high percent of positive molecular diagnosis as well as the negativisim of the test in cases with complete treatment response.

Due to its repercussion, it is very valuble for most of prematurely and accurately identified promyelocytic leukemia patients. They receive appropriate treatment, from the last medical achievements at world level, and the benefit of life lengthening and better quality, besides contributing to the disease's universal knowledge. It has 6 publications in magazines of great impact.
