Summary:

There were introduced advanced diagnosis methods such as:

  • nested polymerase chain reaction for multiple recognition of herpes virus in cerebrospinal fluid;
  • following herpes virus infection in patients who have a kidney transplant;
  • seropositivity to herpes virus associate to Kaposi’s Sarcoma and detection by CPR of the DNA of VHH8 in biopsias with patients with Kaposi’s Sarcoma;
  • studies in vitro of herpes simplex stumps’ sensibility and resistence to Acyclovir and Foscarnet;
  • detection by CPR of infection by human papilloma virus in HIV seropositive women;
  • prevalence and distribution of the Chlamydia trachomatis serovars in HIV seropositive women.

The introduction of new techniques in the country allows increasing the sensibility and the speed of diagnosis in immuno-depressed patients in order to facilitate the establishment of a specific treatment, to recognize virus herpes stumps resistant to the antiviral agents, and to monitor patients who have a kidney transplant. It has been confirmed the presence of VHH8 in the few individuals with clinical diagnostic of Kaposi's sarcoma in Cuba and it has been detected in HIV seropositive women the presence of human papilloma virus to establish the estimates of virus prevalence in this risk group.
