Summary:

The work incorporates the results from the epidemic-clinical surveillance, as well as those from the microbiological surveillance during 17 years, which include the most intense period in the epidemic produced by meningococcus b and the postvaccinal period, starting from the application of VAMENGOC BC in the whole country.

It should be highlighted, as scientific-technical novelty, the creation and application of the national epidemic complementary survey to the System of Direct Information (SID), applied since 1983, which in an automated way has allowed elaborating a database from 1983 to 1999 that includes 9170 sick persons. This made possible the epidemic's scientific study and the assessment of the applied control measures, among them, the Cuban vaccine in its post-discharging stage.

The characterization of 395 N. Meningitidis stumps was also achieved and the monitoring of its sensibility to penicillin and to other antibiotics. For this purpose, it was necessary to create a new means of transport of bacterial stumps, which was patented in 1995.

Another novel aspect has been the predictive mathematical pattern of the morbidity for this disease starting from climatic indicators, which has allowed emiting the MA prognosis since 1997 and its exit in the Weekly Epidemic Bulletin of IPK since that year.

The methodological severity with which the mentioned group of results was obtained, is recognized by experts who emitted the corresponding references and by the arbitration of 24 publications (14 in International magazines and 10 in National magazines), 14 distinctions and obtained prizes and 13 postgraduate course thesis.

The work includes:

  • a) Contributions to the manager’s department of the National Program for the Prevention and Control of MA
  • b) Contributions to the postdischarge assessment of VAMENGOC-BC.

In this sense, the work evidences that a good vaccinal product should have a good system for surveying and applying a group of non tangible technologies, which allow demonstrating its effectiveness and facilitating its commercialization in other countries.
