The presented work constitutes a rigorous result from the studied topic. Its content structure approaches: family as a demographic category; methodological bases for its study; housing dynamics and family nuclei in Cuba, as well as the socio-demographic transformation of Cuban family. It provides a substantial body of recommendations that allow leading Cuban demographic politics toward the solution of social and economic problems, keys for current and perspective development.

It possesses many reliable references from national and international institutions.

This work provides:

  • The correlation and comparison of demographic processes with family composition,
  • It updates and deepens the knowledge of homes and Cuban family's composition, starting from the information provided by the National Survey of Internal Migrations, carried out in the country in 1995, disintegrated at national level by the System of Populational Settlements,
  • It analyzes how Cuban family has changed in time according to the phases through which it goes: formation, expansion and rupture,
  • It offers a diagnosis of unipersonal and mono-parental homes, explaining their implications and possible social and political measures to take.
