2001 | New contributions to the metabolic route of nitric oxide and its implications in physiopathologic processes.
Main author: René Delgado Hernández y Armando Rojas Rubio.
Summary:

This work makes a contribution to the researches about the role of nitric oxide in physiopathologic processes. In this, there are presented discoveries about the biomedical relevance of this metabolic way.

It is presented a group of basic and applied studies in connection with the production modulation of NO and the effects from this radical, which allow widening the therapeutic reach and action mechanisms of pharmacos such as chlorpromazine (CPC), to determine the etiological role of the advanced products of glycosylation (PAGs) in the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus and the processes of associate endothelial dysfunction, to characterize the mechanisms of pharmacological action of endogenous neuropeptides, as the alpha-stimulating hormone of melanocyte (& #945;-MSH) with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulator action and to carry out certain contributions to the knowledge of mechanisms that mediate in the inflammatory response, such as the regulation in the cytokine biosynthesis. All of them are relevant aspects that constitute significant contributions to scientific knowledge. The document is elegantly presented. It is organized in an appropriate way and it consists of all the necessary elements to reach conclusions. The selected methods are appropriate to the objectives proposed in the study.

The obtained results are applicable to pathologies of high morbility and mortality, as the degenerative diseases of CNS, endotoxic shock, glomerulonephritis, etc. The work is endorsed by 12 international scientific publications of wide circulation, such as Circulation Research, Journal of Leukocyte Biology, Thorax, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, Inflamation Research, and more than 20 presentations in events carried out in Cuba, Italy, Canada and United States.
