Summary:

This is a study of major importance comprising researches, academic training and national and international publications carried out by the authors during more than 20 years of systematic work in the field of preservation of patrimonial values of Camaguey urban and architectural historic sections.

As a result of what is partially treated in this paper, Camaguey has become an acknowledged site in relation to the preservation of Iberoamerican historic monuments.

The following are among the most outstanding merits of this work: actions developed for the application of research results, outlining of the strategy for the preservation of the historic section including urban regulations to control interventions, typological featuring of residential and religious architectures where the eclectic character introduced by the Catalan masters taking part in its construction as well as the acknowledgement and prestige achieved by the authors in teaching not only in Cuban universities, but also in Iberoamerican ones is discovered.

The study has been developed in a steady relationship between theoretical and practical knowledge where the importance of the social aspects of Historic Section settlers and their contribution to the preservation of historic monuments is acknowledged, as well as the link between economic and cultural aspects, which will allow to transform this national heritage in a resourse, that if well exploited, will allow to finance its preservation.

It is for all of these results as well as for the authority and prestige achieved and their valuable contributions in the field of culture and national identity and to the technical, social, economic and environmental aspects that the authors of this work are proposed for the Science Annual Award.
