The work is based on the compilation of the results of 20 years of research on the development and applications of simulation techniques for the analysis of sugar industry processes supporting the decision making favoring technical and economic efficiency of the industry. Techniques for the solution of non-linear equation systems, linear programming, differential equation systems , critical route, regressional adjustments and sequential numeric calculations have been employed. Several methodologies for modelling and simulation takiing into account the operations of sugar industrial process have been developed. These techniques have been applied in Cuba and abroad through their sale as product or consulting service.
SIMFAD (Simulation of Sugar and By-products Factories) is the first commercial product with a sugar industry approach allowing to optimize the operation of some processes and to use a Cuban product similar to the Northamerican SUGARS which is not available for our industry. /p>
DAFLEX is a program that allows the integration of processes and is being used by the Ministry of the Sugar Industry (MINAZ) for the analysis of diversification alternatives including an economic simulation allowing to assess economic and technical aspects with an integral approach .
As a marketable product, the SIMFAD has been sold to sugar factories from Brazil. It is used by the in systems for the official calculation of courses. It has also been used as tool in consulting services for Cuban and Latinamerican factories.
The application of some of these programs began on 1982, specially those related to the energy balance in the sugar process and have continued with the development and application of new programs up to the present time.
About 20 written guarantees by national and international users are presented, as well as that of the Scientific and Advising Council of MINAZ and by different awards received. Ten articles on national and 8 on international reviews have been published.
