It consists in the technology development and the fitting of existing equipment for the national production of currency paper.Starting from the analysis of samples of currency papers which have circulated in the country since 1950 and also of samples of foreign currency papers, the adequate raw material as well as chemicals were selected in order to achieve the desired properties for this kind of paper.
The scale research work using CMC allowed to achieve energy savings of 20-30% in its production as well as a first prototype. Modifications were carried out in the industrial plant at a cost of one million US dollars. It is good to say that the cost of a new facility of this kind can amount to 25-30 millions dollars. These modifications together with the experimental work allowed to start a first industrial production on 1995.
The results achieved allowed to develop a novel technology which has been patented. The activity and scientific results allowed in only seven years, since the technological request made by the National Bank of Cuba , that the country became one of the few producers of currency paper in the world. Five productions of this kind of paper have been made in order to print 323 millions bills of 5 and 10 Cuban pesos satisfying the need of the country in this regard. The paper produced has endured the conditions imposed by its circulation with a one year durability which is similar to the internationally established.
Its economic worth has been superior to one million usd due to currency saving or 2 500 000 usd due import replacement. The productions of money paper in the form of 5 and 10 pesos bills have taken place since 1997 -214 million bill in those denominations have been issued.
