It is a work published in 2 volumes by the Social Sciences Publishing House, which offers an overview of the trends and figures of Cuban thought from the 19th century with an integrative perspective: it not only refers to the thought of outstanding figures in the field of particular sciences' philosophy, but also to those whose thought constitutes a landmark for the ideological and political development of our country. It is therefore a complete result, product of the educational and investigative work carried out by both authors for many years. They also consider in their investigation some personalities of Cuban thought who were unknown before.
It is a novel analysis insofar as it also considers the political thought of some pro-independence leaders, who even when didn't have written work and were not intellectual as such, made important contributions to Cuban thought, such as Maximo Gómez and Antonio Maceo. The originality and creativity are in the methodology used, in both the introduction made from a Marxist Leninist conceptual theorical perspective and the selection itself made on that base. This way, it is possible to understand the links of thought from the 19th century, with the precedent manifestations and with those produced during the 20th century. The scientific level and thoroughness are given by the elements previously mentioned, and in addition, by the analysis deprived of all kinds of dogmatism or other prejudices. Also, by the form in which it is unveiled the interrelation between historical thought evolution with the concrete conditions in Cuba and the rest of the world, and in particular in Latin America. It is a very useful work for students, professors and researchers.
