This work embraces a group of researches carried out for 15 years in different stockbreeding regions of the country, with a view to providing the necessary scientific support to implement the use of trees and bushes as protein complement in animals that are being exploitated on the basis of pastures and fodders of poor quality, which is a very important aspect for Cuba and other countries that have the same problems.

These results integrate, for the first time in Cuba, the information on the chemical characterization and phytochemical sieve with the content and deposition of secondary compounds; and their relationship with the degradability of dry matter, fiber detergent and nitrogen, as well as their effect on ruminal microbial population as anti-fauna plants and their possible toxic effects. With these ends, it was characterized a group of 26 plants of trees and bushes (22 species belonging to 16 genuses) to use as supplement in livestock feeding. This information is very valuable for decision making in animal nutrition with regard to the handling of these species and other leguminous plants, according to the productive purpose of animals and the context of diet in general.

The results and recommendations have been endorsed by Cuban and foreign specialists and scientific institutions, and also by productive entities. The results of the work have been rewarded, presented in scientific events and published in 34 articles of national magazines, most of these in the Cuban Magazine of Agricultural Science, 1 summary in a prestigious foreign publication, 1 arbitrated scientific monograph, 1 book and 2 pamphlets.
