This work is a great research project developed during the last 4 years by a group of the CEINPET, aimed at defining the geographic areas where the best factors of the Cuban oil system are concentrated and where the exploratory risk is lower.

The work consisted in the mapping of mother rocks, the location of areas with possibilities of oil, definition of migration ways, location of deposits and the seals and most defined and safe structures. The main objective was to locate in every area being studied the most favorable places to carry out oil exploration, proposing a priority order steming from the integration of all the factors comprising exploratory risk. So, in every area the leads where sismic works are being carried out and places where drilling is being done were marked. The objective was fulfilled and the final result was 121 leads and 40 prospects. Drillings have been done in six of the prospects determined by the project and favorable results were obtained in five of them which are contributing with an important share to the present national production.

This result has an economic value worth of millions dollars. Besides this work is being used to study other sectors, including those located offshore and part of it has been purchased by foreign enterprises which have signed contracts with Cuba.

The work comprises the following novel aspects:

• Application for the first time in Cuba of an integral and multidiscipline study on the factors affecting this kind of assessment,
• Research and development of methodologies to generalize the properties of deposits and assess the load of prospects,
• Precision of geological models in the study sectors with the contribution of modern conceptions,
• The conception of right hand faults as the most important ones for structuring and the left hand faults for migration.

The results of this research have been presented in 12 scientific events, 9 of them international ones and 37 articles have been published by outstanding reviews. Associated to this research 2 thesis for master degree and 4 for doctors degree have been developed. All the results presented in the work have been acknoledged by the competent authorities of CUPET.
