

The work presented comprises the research carried out during about 30 years by a scientific group of 16 professors. This work has aimed at increasing the mechanic efficiency of sugar cane mills and the durability of its elements.
The work presents the following results:
1. New designs for the teeth of mill crowns,
2. New technology to manufacture mill crowns,
3. New methodology and software for mill design,
4. New designs of square coupling,
5. Data processing systems for crown design,
6. Reliability studies of Villa Clara province sugar mills. 7. Redimensioning of steam engines,
8. Design and technology to recover mill gears,
9. New type of speed reductor.
The work done was supported and organized by five CITMA projects: two national and three local ones. One of the results has a an invention patent granted on 2001. The results have been presented in 31 articles published by acknoledged national reviews and one of the articles was published by the international review Sugar Journal and in 19 events, 9 of them internatonal. Partial results have been given 11 awards. The topics of this research have supported the defence of ten thesis for the doctor degree. It also has several application acknowledgements by the directing boards of the Villa Clara province sugar mills involved, MINAZ (Ministry of the Sugar Industry) branch offices in Villa Clara and Granma and the one given by the Development Directorate of the Ministry.
