Summary:

It approaches the calculation of per capita GDP in terms of Purchasing Power Parity, as part of the "Macroeconomic Performance" research project inside the Branch Program with the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

In the internal level, there is concern associated to the fact that the indicator conventionally used in the mensuration of national economic performance, the Gross Domestic Product, doesn't reflect adequately the degree of economic and social wellfare, for undervaluations of social services, not mercantile.

In adition, the GDP calculations are not strictly comparable among countries, even if they shared a common currency, for the presence of distortions in the relative prices; for this reason, there are internationally carried out this calculations in terms of purchasing power parity, to achieve a certain homogeneity in this calculation, which also contributes to a more appropriate registration of those services in which a mercantile transaction does not mediate.

Nowadays in Cuba, there are not conditions to proceed inmediately to calculate the Purchasing Power Parity through the direct way; for this reason, it is necessary its estimation through the indirect methods. Nevertheless, current conditions -monetary duality and markets segmentation-, do not make possible the application of the conventionally recommended instruments.

The contribution of this work, consists on the use of the technique of neuronal artificial nets to formalize such estimates, which is a novelty in this sphere of economic applications, with solid and adequately validated results. It is unknown that this procedure has been previously applied for such ends.

It leads to a theoretical and practical impact in the current effort to achieve an appropriate measurement of Cuban economy. This has been recognized by international experts in the subject, recently gathered in Cuba.
