The book approaches the concept of civil society in its historical evolution, gathering diverse interpretations in different circumstances, in particular, in its relation to political power, in some cases as complement, and in other cases as antagonic. It is foccused in Marxist definitions and in Gramsci and in Cuban reality.
The approach is original, becuse these thematics were not previously collected. Its main contribution lies in the recovery of the concept’s value from the Marxist point of view and its applicability in Cuban circumstances, which makes it more interesting and updated, representing aspects for polemics from highly sustained positions.
The treatment reveals scientific rigor, a deep theoretical level, and an adequate use of sources in an updated bibliography (most of it from the nineties), of authors with many different points of view, properly used. The thesis that he defends is plentifully proved.
It uses a didactic style without simplifications, but on the contrary, it has a philosophical depth, feasible to many authors not yet specialized in sociopolitical matters. It is in a compromised position keeping logic of development in the thematics’ presentation and following its exposition.
The presentation of the central problem is particularly useful by itself to present Cuban reality, especially for policies’ definition and improvement. Also, its usefulness is sufficiently validated in the references presented, for which it is proved its introduction in social practice through the contribution of elements for changes in the social conscience, at the same time that its content is included in published articles, presentations in events and in teaching programs of several subjects.
