There are presented the results obtained, as main institutions, by the Institute of Ecology and Systematic and the National Botanical Garden, in national and international projects, since 1997 to date.
There were identified from the collection in diverse areas of the country, 770 species of fungi that belong to 421 genuses. Four genuses, 18 species, 1 variety and 6 combinations were new for science, and 102 new species were registered for Cuban mycobiota. These results were published or are in publication phase in national and international prestigious magazines. It was created a database with 149785 individual registrations of live organisms in the Caribbean. This database made possible producing, structured as a book, "Fungi of Caribbean and annotated checklist", the most complete and up-to-date fungi inventory in the region.
The book has 946 pages and its consultation is indispensable to all the mycologists in the world. Also, it was produced the Conservation Strategy of Fungi Diversity in Cuba from the analysis of the information available in the databases. This strategy constitutes the first document in our country, in the region of the Caribbean and in Latin America that approaches the problem of fungi conservation, and one of the most detailed documents in the world. It is structured in two main parts: in the first one, it is offered the most current state in Cuban mycobiota knowledge, while in the second part, it is developed the strategy and action plan.
