Summary:

The scientific contributions of this work consist on the development of procedures in bioreactors of 2 L for the multiplication and production of somatic embryos of plants such as sugar cane, coffee and banana trees, as a specific way to automate in vitro propagation and reduce the costs of these processes. It was specifically carried out: the design and launching of an agitation-aeration system, which made possible to generate low hydrodynamic forces in the cultivation glass, guarantying the quality and viability of suspension cultivations, as well as the formation and multiplication of somatic embryos. Also, it was studied the influence of parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH and agitation speed, which defined methodologies and strategies that combine these cultivation parameters allowing monitoring and controlling the production of these somatic embryos.

These researches allowed obtaining yields of 73000 ES/L of coffee tree, 32000 ES/L of sugar cane and until 140000 ES/L of banana tree, these two last cultivations have a great scientific novelty, because they don't have precedents worldwide. Also, it was achieved an important contribution to the total automation of the process, when combining the production of somatic embryos in the bioreactor and their germination in temporary immersion systems. It should be also highlighted the effective use of new embryo fermentation techniques regarding the reactor’s design, because they are not available at commercial level, since most of them are designed for the cultivation of microorganisms.

The obtained results show a high scientific rigor, and they are endorsed by their publication in prestigious international and national magazines, a book's chapter, short congress communications and two doctoral theses; in addition, references from the Central Scientific Council of the Central University of Las Villas and the Provincial Advisory Council of CITMA of the provincial delegation of Villa Clara, the Recognition Diploma of CITMA Prov. Villa Clara in 2003, the Provincial Prize in the 10th Exposition of Forgers of the Future in 2002 and the Outstanding Diploma at Provincial Level, CITMA Prov. Villa Clara in 2001.
