Cryptococcosis is a fungus emergent infection affecting man. This entity is fatal when not early diagnosed and treated. Its comprehensive study is considered an issue which, despite addressing a non frequent health problem for the general population, is in deed considered emergent and already interesting and impacting on a group of sick persons suffering from immunodefficiencies, mainly HIV/AIDS sufferers. The fact of having a lack of Cryptococcosis comprehensive addressing study in our country constitutes the reason to undertake this work.
With a right methhodology, the clinic characteristics and missdiagnosis factors in children , Cryptococcosis and HIV/AIDS sufferers were identified. This fungus´ “prevalence” was specified in different cuban pigeon lofts; Cryptococcus characteristics were identified in patients and contaminating sources; two high specificity and sensibility rapid diagnosis methods were designed and standardized ( ELISA and Latex test).
Results of this work contribute to the early diagnosis and treatment in a severely sick patients group, as well as to the identification of environmental risks in our country. Additionally, when inserting and transfering new rapid diagnosis technologies, it saves lab reagents importation.
This result have brought about 16 publications (11 nationals and 5 internationals); 3 chapters of a book; 13 thesis (4, Master´s, 6 Residence, 3 diplomas); 26 scientific events (15 internationals and 11 nationals) with 52 presented works.
