This result is based on the treatment of traumatic hip fractures in persons over 50 years old , during the period 1998-2003Este.

The guidebook addresses a current national and international health problem, with more than a million of this kind of fracture per year in the world and 12 000 in Cuba.

It analyses a wide bibliography, giving conclussions through evidences, and recomendat ions of the work group on the right management of these patients, in the view to decrease the hip fracture related incidence and mortality in elderlies, as well as to improve their future life quality.

There have been made three publications on the issue in Cuban journals. It won the National Health Award 2004 and has been aproved by the Othopedics National Group of MINSAP and the Cuban Orthopedics Society.

The social impact of the guibook application consists on the utility of leveling up quality and assistance excelence, results and evaluations of hip fracture in elderlies at all municipal, provincial and national levels, in the hospitals of the country.
