Se dedicó también a los estudios de Cibernética aplicada a la Medicina y gran parte de su esfuerzo lo consagró a la urgente tarea de reformar los hospitales universitarios y al propio Plan de estudios de la Facultad de Medicina.

Summary:

Scientific impact: This work reflects four decades studying the microflora of sugar agroindustry products and its derivatives, in the stumps’ cultivation of ICIDCA. The collection of autochthonous stumps and their conservation through conventional and Molecular Biological methods constitute a complex and new result that supports decisively many processes of sugar industry: the production of alcohol, torula yeast, and biopesticides among others. The scientific production includes the publication of more than 20 articles in ICIDCA magazine and others, and the presentation of reports in 30 international events. There have been used microorganisms obtained from these stumps in many biotechnical researches. In the last ten years, there are more than 70 publications that report having used stumps conserved in ICIDCA's collection, 42% of them are articles referred in important or internationally prestigious bases. This validates the quality and security of the identification and classification of these microorganisms, and the scientific rigor of their conservation by the specialists of ICIDCA. This collection of cultivations constitutes the Collection of Reference Cultivation of MINAZ, which has winned several times in the Forum of Science and Technique on a provincial and municipal scale. The Catalog of Microbial Stumps, published in 2003, constitutes an important scientific achievement.

Economic impact: The most outstanding aspect in this result is the stability that allows achieving in the industrial biotechnical processes, guarantying the security and biosecurity of the microorganism used. There is also an import substitution effect, because it is one of the most important elements in the biotechnical process, in fact the starting point: the microorganism. It allows assuring the quality of the processes and the prospective final product, and this way it is not necessary to carry out accidental changes in the technological process.

Social impact: The cultivation of stumps guarantees the research and production of many national fermentative industries, through the safe preservation of the biological potential, heritage of our country. The production is stabilized and the environment and human beings are protected when providing autochthonous pure cultivations, which have not been genetically modified. The results of this work are at the universities' disposal, assuring the teaching of identification and conservation, key elements of Biosafety.

Conclusion: It has a high scientific level, as well as economic and social introduction level, representing a main support in the industry of MINAZ.
