The results of this research, presented in a very understendable way, constitute the first of this type in our country, since they proved for the first time and at international level, the SURFACEN ( porcine origin cuban lung surfactant) biophysical, antiinflammatory and antimicrobial properties, as well as SP-A porcine protein antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.

Knowledge contributing tu understanding of SP-A action mechanism is given. Likewise it is proved for the first time that SURFACEN pharmaceutical product has also interphase properties similar to the ones present in natural surfactant and greater than an homologous foreign surfactant.

The used methods thoroughly applied by the authors have a high scientific level at worldwide level.

The new biphysical and immunomodulating properties stidied serves as pharmacological foundation for a further pharmaceutical formulation out of this surfactant and the protein in thje treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Additionally, it contributes to surfactant field in seeking and sustaining a pharmaceutical formulation which can constitute a selecting therapy to a complex problem which have been not solved yet.

It has 11 supports, 4 of them from prestigious international institutions.

The results are gathered in 9 publications (2000-2005), 2 of them in journals with great impact and 7 are refferenced, as well as 17 presentations in National and International Congresses.
