Eminente naturalista, publicó el Compendio de Geografía de la Isla de Cuba, primer libro de su tipo escrito e impreso en el país. Pero su obra monumental es Ictiología Cubana, fruto de sus investigaciones de más de cincuenta años.

The result that receives this Prize consists on the synthesis of a family of materials, the characterization of their electric properties and the computational simulation to atomic scale, in order to determine the way in which the ions are distributed in the positions of the synthesized material. As a result of this study, there were developed new methodologies that contribute to know deeply the processes that take place in these materials.

There was carried out the synthesis of the materials studied, using ceramic as well as sol-gel. From the synthetic point of view, the novelty consists on the increase of the synthesis reaction speed through the substitution of strange earths by bismuth, diminishing the temperature and time of thermal treatment.

The study of the electric properties was approached through dielectric spectroscopy. It was developed on this basis an analysis methodology and processing of the results. This methodology increases the possibilities of Dielectric Spectroscopy to be used as a powerful technique that allows correlating the electric response of a material with its microstructure and its physicochemical properties.

It was demonstrated through computational chemical simulation, from the energetic point of view, that it is very important the way in which ions are distributed in the positions of the material's structure.

This work is endorsed by 6 scientific articles published in the international magazines referred in the WebOfScience (J. Inorg. Chem, J. Eur. Ceram. Soc., Phys. Stat. Sol., Journal of Chemical Education), and by several presentations in national and international events, a doctoral thesis proposed as outstanding thesis, as well as foreign favorable opinions of specialists.
